Jody Porter – I had that dream again

I had that dream again

the one where all the trees are underwater
and all the rich are in the hills
and are alive.

How wondrous they
our goldsmiths of policy
in the very crux of nature’s embrittlement.

Thank god for our death-cult of ruination
us lowlanders will need it
soon enough.

Jody Porter is poetry editor of the Morning Star. His poetry has appeared in Best British Poetry 2013, Magma, South Bank Poetry and elsewhere. Originally from Essex he now lives in Stoke Newington, London, where he is involved in the Stoke Newington Literary Festival.
