Lizzy Matterson – An Exhibition

An Exhibition

The silent scream of the powerless
A testament to the death of ideals
Scrawled among the fascists’ bombs
Stained by the blood of the creator
Recused from rumble by comrades
And used to further their cause
A propaganda tool for intervention
Rally call for the raising of funds
Reprints for a socialite’s Christmas
Sent as cards to the liberal rich
Passed in the hands of a collector
And displayed as this year’s vogue
Repaid as a tax debt to the nation
Hung on a far off museum wall
Ignored by hordes of boredom
Just a footnote to a greater war
